As you are setting up plans to decorate your dining room you may be trying to sort out just what dining room tables are the best for this space. Part of this is going to be decided by the size of your living room. After all if you have a small living room you can’t have oversized dining room tables. They just won’t fit! At the same time if you have a massive dining room you don’t want something too small. But there is still a little flexibility most of the time.
Here’s a look at the various table size options and how and why you may want to use them in your home.
Small Dining Tables
If you have a small dining room in an apartment, condo or even a small house, you may want to think small when it comes to your dining room table. After all, one way to make a small room seem larger is to make sure the furniture is scaled down as well to give the appearance of more open space and therefore a larger space.
The important thing to think of when considering small dining room tables is that you make sure the tables will suit your family’s needs. If you have a large family, this may not be the best solution as you will not be able to let everyone sit down at dinnertime.
Large Dining Tables
Many people love the look of massive dining tables. While they can indeed look great, you should make sure you are purchasing them for the right reasons, not just to take up space. Have you ever seen homes where there is a long dining room table with just one person sitting at each end? How awkward!
Instead get to know what you need and the space you have. If you have a large dining room, fantastic. Now consider the meals you are going to be serving and how many people will be in attendance. Make sure you get a table that will suit those needs.
For many people, it is much like Goldilocks and the Three Bears – tables are either too small for one need or too large for another. So is there a way to find a table that is just right? Sure there is. Get one that can be both a large and small dining table.
There are plenty of dining tables out there that are adjustable. These come with a leaf or sometimes more than one leaf that can be attached in the center. That means when you need it, you have a long dining table by just sliding those leaves in place. This may be perfect for those major family functions when relatives overrun your home. But the rest of the time, when it’s just the small family around, you can take those leaves.
